The Christmas Star and Trans-Siberian Orchestra Included on Holiday Schedule
The popular Trans-Siberian Orchestra Laser Show and Mystery of the Christmas Star headline the schedule at Ingram Planetarium’s holiday Dome Theater this holiday season, but Santa will also make three special appearances Thursdays in December.
With educational films that inspire curiosity and spectacular laser music shows that will create out-of-this-world holiday memories, Ingram Planetarium has something for visitors of all ages.
Stars with Santa – Each Thursday in December (5, 12 and 19) at 4 p.m. children can explore the night sky through imagined holiday-themed constellations like a sleigh, a Christmas tree, candy canes and more in the full-dome film, Christmas Constellations. Then they can visit with Santa himself. Parents can plan to take their own photos.
Holiday Dome Theater Shows: Every Thursday – Saturday, Nov. 7-Dec. 28, explore remote areas, journey to the farthest reaches of space, or discover the stars you’ll see in your own backyard in our immersive theater – doors open at 10:30 am:
11:00 am – Accidental Astronauts – Follow the adventures of Cy and Annie and their dog Armstrong as they embark on an unexpected journey into space!
12:00 pm – Seeing: A Photon’s Journey–Follow the journey of a single photon as it is produced in a distant star, before traveling across the vast expanse of space to land on someone’s retina. This full dome planetarium show explores some of the fascinating processes of the cosmos, from astrophysics to the biology of the eye and brain. Funded through a generous grant from ZEISS, the show is narrated by astronomer and science communicator, Neil deGrasse Tyson.
1:00 pm – Drifting North: The Arctic Pulse (New!) – Follow an international team of scientists from over 20 countries as they embark on an epic year-long expedition to the Central Arctic, MOSAiC. The Multidisciplinary Drifting Observatory for the Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) team froze the German Icebreaker R/V Polarstern into the sea ice for a year. For a year, the team drifts with an ice floe and strives to understand the Arctic climate system and its future.
2:00 pm – Mystery of the Christmas Star – Journey back over 2,000 years to Bethlehem as we seek to discover a scientific explanation for the star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus. This modern retelling of the Christmas story is sure to charm and captivate audiences of all ages.
3:00 pm – The Sky Tonight! – Tour the planets, constellations, and other celestial events happening in the night sky above our community. Then, next time you walk along the beach on a clear night, you’ll be able to identify the celestial sights you see.
- Holiday Laser Music Shows: Every Friday and Saturday evening, Nov. 8 through Dec. 28,enjoy a unique and memorable sensory experience with laser effects accompanied by popular music heard through the area’s best sound system – doors open at 5:30 pm:
- 6:00 pm – Classic Laser Holiday – Relax in the Planetarium’s Sky Theater and enjoy colorful laser images displayed on the domed ceiling accompanied by beloved holiday music including Sleigh Ride, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Winter Wonderland, and Jingle Bell Rock.
- 7:00 pm – Laser Trans-Siberian Orchestra – With more than 10 million albums sold, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) is a progressive rock band that pushes musical boundaries, inspiring generations of fans to rediscover the multi-dimensional art form of the rock opera. Enjoy TSO’s popular holiday concert setlist with laser light effects.
