The 40th annual North Carolina oyster festival is on for October 16 and 17th and it is back at nearby Ocean Isle Beach! Come celebrate everything Oyster as we transform Ocean Isle Beach Town Center Park into a walking district offering a variety of foods, crafts, contests and musical performances.
With the support of our dedicated committee of volunteers, the Town of Ocean Isle Beach, many of our local businesses and the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, the NC Oyster Festival is your destination for fun.
Event organizers with the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce originally wanted to hold the festival in nearby Shallotte to help in celebrating the opening of the town’s new Riverwalk.
However, at their meeting, on September 7th, Shallotte town alderman turned down the festival this year due to concerns over Covid.
A week later, chamber executive director Susan Freeman issued a press release announcing that the festival will return to Ocean Isle Beach.
According to the festival website at NCoysterfestival.com, the festival is to take place at Ocean Isle’s Town Center Park at 11 East 2nd Street.
This year‘s festival will only have one event, the oyster shucking contest, at 11 AM on a October 17th. The competition will have a maximum of 40 entries competing in four heats of 10. The four winners from each heat will then compete for the title.
The festival’s traditional oyster stew cook off and oyster eating competition have been postponed until 2022.
Ocean Isle Beach Mayor, Debbie Smith said that she has been talking with Freeman during the past year or so that the festival needs to be back at Ocean Isle Beach.
The last, 39th annual festival into 2019 was canceled on the second day because of a bad storm.
A list of approved vendors is available up on the festival website. Some of the vendors will be Folklore Art, which makes pottery and art such as ornaments of clay and oyster shells, Yarn Chef Creations, Hansen Clothing and Hippie Chick Granola company.
The entertainment lineup on Saturday, October 16 consists of Ace Party Band performing from 1:30 to 3:00 PM and Jim Quick & Coastline from 3:30 to 6 PM. On Sunday, October 17, the schedule consists of Darrell Harrwood and Gary Lowder and Smokin Hot.
