We were amazed by the response to the contest to “Name Our Turtle” hels by The Winds Resort Beach Club on nearby Ocean Isle Beach. Once the suggestions were in we asked you (and your friends ) to vote on the winning name.
We listed the names on this site in an earlier posting and you voted on them! We are now ready to reveal the name of our turtle… drum roll please….
The overwhelming winner for naming our turtle is “Windy” The Winds’ Sea Turtle!!
The most amazing thing is that just as we were concluding the vote we received a call from Gloria Hillenburg, Coordinator of the Ocean Isle Beach Turtle Patrol, to tell us our turtle had come ashore and laid her eggs. We hope to have picture of her as she came ashore soon (we’re trying to reach the volunteer who was there and took a photo).
The nest is located a little a short walk to the west of The Winds Resort Beach Club at 296 East First Street (we’re glad it is in a quiet place).

By the way don’t miss this year’s BIG TURTLE DAY (on nearby Ocean Isle Beach) sponsored by the Ocean Isle Turtle Patrol. You’ll be able to meet a LIVE SEA TURTLE that was rescued by the Sea Turtle Hospital at Topsail Beach.
The Turtle Patrol’s BIG TURTLE DAY will be held on Wednesday, JULY 8TH at The Ocean Isle Community Center – located wthin a short walk up the beach from the The Winds Resort Beach Club. The Turtle Patrol’s BIG TURTLE DAY runs from 10 a.m. until 2:30 P.M.
The Turtle Patrol Sea Turtle will arrive at 11 a.m. with Jean Beasley and her fine crew bringing it down from the Sea Turtle Hospital at Topsail Beach.
There will be a silent auction and 2 Children activities. This will give visitors a chance to come in on Sat. see the Ocean Isle Beach 4th of July Parade on Sunday enjoy the beach on Monday, come to the Turtle Presentation on Tuesday, then come to see a live turtle on Wednesday, what a great way to start a week!
